“In the fight for England’s head, York wore white, Lancaster red.” Four of Shakespeare’s most dynamic plays taking place during the 100 year War of the Roses. Henry IV, parts 1 and 2, concern the first Lancastrian king, but is overshadowed by the character of Falstaff, (who stole the show as well as from his comrades)and Henry's concern for the poor conduct of his son, the future king; Henry V – Prince Hal – is about that king’s invasion of France and his romance and marriage to Katherine. Richard III is the single Yorkist in the group, and his character as drawn in the play, as well as his description and demeanor have been disputed and the story ends with his defeat at the battle of Bosworth Field and the close of the War of the Roses.
